Taipei 101 decommissioned elevator cables
The Taipei 101 elevators zoom by at the high speed of 1010 meters per minute, supported mainly by sturdy steel cables. In order to meet the stringent safety requirement standards, the cables are completely replaced every few years. For Taipei 101, these steel cables play an extremely important role. Starting with the concept of environmental protection and recycling, Kang Muxiang experimented with the possibility of creating art from steel cables for one and a half years. During the experimental process, he overcame technical challenges such as "decontamination and cleaning," "turning tough to soft," and "bending the straight." Through incredible effort, he recycled the steel cables to give back to the earth and give the material a new lease on life.

How can discarded steel cables from a suspension bridge be reborn?
The Qingquan No. 1 bridge was built during the period of Japanese occupation of Taiwan. It was closed in 2014 due to disrepair. The discarded steel cables were washed and tempered by Kang Muxiang and 18 inmates, and they were reborn as art materials.

I use discarded steel cables as my materials, which are then transformed into totems of life art. In order to reduce the burden on the earth, clean up pollution, and protect life,
everyone needs to work together and cherish the natural environment.
I hope everyone understands this determination to care for the earth.
Let's find happiness, together.
